I'm encouraged! I'm encouraged about the attention breast cancer is receiving, encouraged about the new advances in genetics, diagnostics, and treatments. Because change is occurring so rapidly, I encourage you to learn all you can about breast cancer, how to prevent it, how yours fits the patterns, and how to control your own healthcare. I encourage you to insist on a dialogue with your doctor and not allow him/her to dictate your treatment - get a second opinion always, if only for confimation that the first doctor has the correct assessment.
I encourage you to get active - participate in support groups, join an organization such as the National Breast Cancer Coalition, the Komen Organization, or their local affiliates. I encourage you to let your voice be heard - by your friends, by your doctors, by your legislators - to ensure that no one takes you for granted.
This blog will be my opinions on what I see occurring in the breast cancer world. I'll try to comment at least weekly if not more frequently. I am not a medical professional, but I have had some scientific training and have served on several breast cancer proposal review boards. Please let me know if you have questions, feel free to comment, and to email me through the contact log on
PositiveHope.com.
I am encouraged and have positive hope that we will see breast cancer eradicated!
